What is the Cadet International Camporee?

Who can attend Kamp Longview?

Cadets who are 11 years old or older (as of December 31, 2026) and are active in their Cadet clubs can attend, along with their club counselors and junior counselors.

All cadets must earn the Camporee Certification Award, including the Camporee Certification Course, and earn merit badges for Camp Cooking, Knots and Lashing, Axemanship, Fire Building, or, in place of the four badges, earn the Woodsman Guide Trail.

Camp Life & Activities

What kinds of activities will campers participate in?
Can my boys (or friends) be in the same cadre?

We think it is a huge value for the boys to meet new people from other parts of Cadets. We work diligently to mix up the cadres so that they are not grouped with anyone from the same family, club, city, or even state (in most cases). This also levels the playing field for boys who are coming alone. Everyone is meeting new people!

Supervision & Safety

Who will be supervising the campers?
What safety measures are in place?
Is there a medical staff on-site?
What about special medical and dietary restrictions?

We will request that information during the registration process. We typically try to group boys and counselors with similar needs so we can accommodate them. (For example, we have had a diabetic cadre and a gluten-free cadre.) We also have a fully trained medical staff on site, as well as a food committee helping to plan appropriate meals.
Do campers need to be vaccinated?

The town of Okotoks features all amenities and has a Best Western hotel as well as a few other local hotels/motels. Okotoks would keep you close to the family camp, and can serve as a great “home base” as you explore the rest of the area. Alternatively, you could also head towards the mountains and stay in Canmore or Banff, but we suggest booking early, as these are popular tourist destinations. Airbnb and VRBO also have properties in the surrounding area.

Cornel Rylaarsdam Memorial Fund

Some families would like to send their cadet or counselor to an international camporee, but they don’t have the financial resources. The CRMF is available to help pay part or all of the registration fees for individuals who need help. The Steering Committee of the International Camporee reviews requests.
